It’s about time there was something like this. While I already use a Korg nanopad with Serato to perform most of these functions, I have to say the smaller size of this controller is appealing. There’s rarely a stable and accessible spot to put my nano in any given dj booth. The design is very clever (using the spot for a 45 adapter cutout on the turntable itself) and it looks like a lot of fun. This gadget will be hard to resist. The Dicer should be available in late June/early July and are priced at $100.

“Drunk Girls” is the first single off the new LCD Soundsystem record, This is Happening, which drops May 18th. You can stream the whole record on their website. Based on my few listens, there are some truly brilliant songs/moments happening on this record and “Drunk Girls” is the least of them. But, it probably makes for the most fun, silly and attention-grabbing video. So there you have it. Were this not ultimately consentual, these Pandas would be a little bit scary.

Ok, so I’m a good two weeks behind on keeping up to speed with perhaps the most genius viral video marketing campaign to date, the iamamiwhoami mystery videos. Serious contenders were Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, and Goldfrapp. Now the majority of the blogosphere is convinced it is an artist named Jonna Lee. I’ve never heard of her; her old music and image sounds and seems nothing like the music in these videos. It does sort of “look” like her, but her management denies it’s her. Though I suppose that’s their job. Mtv does a good job of summing the whole thing up here. I’ll leave the googling of “mandrake” and everything else up to you. You can actually buy the song in the 7th video, “b”, from itunes. It’s for sale under the name iamamiwhoami – which kind of blows my mind. That really takes this whole thing to the next level, as does the iphone app. Whoever this artist is, I am legitimately excited for the record. Genius management and marketing aside, the songs sound amazing too, and that’s the most exciting part.

Or Ok-Go is the Skank of the US. ahem. Anway – this video has so many great details. I really like how the embedded footage of the band performing is also stop-motion, made from many small stills from video footage. There’s a “making of” video too, though I wish it was more in-depth. The band has embedding turned off for the video, so you actually have to go to youtube to see it.
